NWS Hong Kong Geo Wonders Hike
8 Geo Wonders of Hong Kong Photo Competition

Purpose Hong Kong has lots of beautiful landscapes despite being a small place. We have spectacular mountains, islands, valleys and coastal features each having their own uniqueness. Some are even comparable to the famous natural wonders of the world.  Through this campaign, we wish to arouse the public awareness of cherishing and conserving our rocks and landscapes. Eligibility The competition is open to all whether they are resident in Hong Kong or otherwise. Photo Requirement Entries must be related to geographical landforms in Hong Kong which include mountains, islands, rivers, valleys and coastal features. Photo can be taken in color or black and white using conventional slides, negatives or digital camera. Size for all digital images should not be less than 5 megapixels (in jpg format) All entries must be submitted in standard 5R prints (5 inches times 7 inches) A maximum of 3 entries can be submitted for each contestant. Each entry must be accompanied with a completed entry form containing necessary personal particulars, a title for the entry and a short description of no more than 50 words, helping to explain the idea behind the photo. The entry form can be downloaded from the website provided for this competition  ( Download Entry Form ). The completed entry form should be glued to the back of each photograph submitted for the competition

Deadline for Submission of Photo
Prints must be submitted by post to the following address no later than 12 noon on 25th Oct 2008 :-

Alternatively, participants may also submit their prints in person to the following branches of Joint Publishing

Important notes

1. All photos must not have been previously entered into any other photo competition or otherwise been used or published
2. All contestants will need to observe that any photo submitted to this competition does not infringe any copyright belonging to any other person or organization
3. Winners will be requested to submit original negatives or slides or digital files on CD. Winners failing to submit proper originals will be disqualified
4. The hosting organization retains all rights to use, without charges, any winning images for the purpose of promoting geo-conservation and related publishing and exhibition. For the purpose of exhibition the hosting organization can, without further authorization from the winner, base on his/her original negatives or slides or digital files to enlarge the print
5. Submitted prints, whether winning any prize or not, will not be returned
6. Whilst submitted prints need no framing,  contestants should before posting carefully pack their work to prevent possible damage during delivery
7. The hosting organization reserves the right to make any changes to any of the above rules, whenever it deems necessary

Prizes
Gold, Silver, Bronze and three outstanding prizes will be awarded to winners in two separate groups:
- Junior (aged 18 or below)
- Open (Above 18)

The following quoted value of photographic equipments will be awarded

All awarded winners will be invited to join the “NWS HK Geo Wonders Hike – Explore Sai Kung Cruise” on the Grand Cruz deluxe yacht on 14th Dec 2008 (Sun).  Each Gold, Silver, Bronze winner could also invite 2 guests to join the cruise while winners of outstanding prize could invite 1 guest. * Whilst each contestant can submit up to three photos for the competition, only one prize is awarded to one contestant.

Judging Criteria
The Judges' decision will be final. Judging criteria will be based on
- Relevancy of the subject to spectacular unique geographical landforms in Hong Kong (50%)
- Overall aesthetics of the photo (including composition and photographic skills etc) (50%)

Announcement of Results
Winners will be notified of the result through email and publishing in www.hkrock.net in November 2008. All selected images will be exhibited in the UNEP International Photographic Competition on the Environment to be held between 1st to 14th November 2008 in the Hong Kong International Airport (Aisle K, T1 Hong Kong International Airport). The Award presentation will be held in November 2008. All contestants are welcomed to join the presentation ceremony.
